Work Print Series Anatomy of Absence

Anatomy of Absence

The Anatomy of Absence series evolved from a consideration of some of the methods of scientific enquiry I learnt whilst training as a biologist. Techniques used in comparative anatomy, such as dissection, random sampling and analysis, are applied to a selection of second-hand shoes purchased at a city car-boot sale. The shoes often harboured evidence of the places they'd been - sand, dry earth, glitter, insects, leaves and seeds. The resulting images draw on the conventions of scientific illustration to explore something intangible: a sense of other people's lives.
